Manchester City Contract Situation
Which Player Extensions Are Coming Next at City?
Contracts aren’t something front of mind for most fans following the club but before you know it that long contract can be run down to become a big problem in the summer. From signing a huge deal to having one year left and every news outlet wonder what will happen next. A well run club stays on top of these contracts to ensure you never run into issues of star players with one year left to go or leaving on a free in the summer.
How does Manchester City contracts look? 👇
Manchester City Contract Situation
Here is a look at our contract situation, via Capology, with the confirmed contracts with green ticks. The main focus for us is not the value or weekly salary for the players but the years left.
If we sort by years remaining then we get a look at who is due to be extending or face a decision on leaving the club. 👇
One player with 1 year left in Scott Carson. Two players with 2 years remaining in De Bruyne and Ortega. Six players with 3 years left in Walker, Ederson, Bernardo Silva, Stones, Gomez and Bobb. All of which are in different situations, some have been linked to contract extensions already.
Extensions Rumored
Thoughts
Scott Carson is well liked by the team, coaching staff and club as as whole. Part of the goalkeeping unit playing wise and coaching wise. Expect that he continues to extend on a yearly basis until he decides to retire.
Stefan Ortega had a saga in the summer, linked to a Bayern Munich move but decided to stay. City will no doubt push for an extension to a keeper that has been more than good enough as back up. Question is whether another club comes in this summer with an offer City cannot turn down.
Kyle Walker signed a new deal in the summer (2023) so he won’t be doing anything other than running that down unless he leaves in a future transfer window. Assuming that he will eventually want to finish back at Sheffield United.
Bernardo I would put in the same camp as Walker, new deal so will only run that down. Talk of wanting to finish his career at Benfica. Only difference would be if a club activates his release clause in the summer and with Mbappe set to leave PSG then that could happen!
Kevin De Bruyne is rumored to extend his contract at City, which would be by a year and likely take him to the end of his career.
Oscar Bobb is meant to have an contract extension announcement coming shortly, that has him set long term at City.
Sergio Gomez will be on the block for a sale in the summer should another team come in.
John Stones the only player left without a concrete report of an extension. Assuming that after the other names listed above, adding another year to his deal will be next on City’s mind.
