1. Newcastle Game Thoughts

It finally happened. No more UFC or F1 events for Kev anymore, now it is time for football. He looked refreshed, calm and focused standing on the sideline with Pep laying out the blueprint for a City comeback.

A game which largely saw a good performance from all City players still needed individual brilliance to get the three points we deserved, despite some individual mistakes. Still, this felt like a shift in momentum for a City group that celebrated after the game as if they won another trophy. We can only imagine the boost Kev gives the groups morale, let alone the quality he bring.

  • Oscar Bobb took his minutes and made them count, as we have seen many times this season. The run, touch and finish was an elegant goal even without the impact of being a last minute winner. He has the skill set to nail down a position anywhere across our front line, as City fans we should only be excited to watch him grow this season. Pushing to be a regular in 24/25.

  • Rodri played one of his best games in a city shirt and in front of our eyes he is evolving to more of a box to box midfielder than a sitting six. In 2023, Rodri made 67 appearances for club & country and has won more trophies (6) than he has lost games (4). Complete.

  • Momentum Gained. Crucial three points for a title race and huge for the morale in the team. Jumping on a plane shortly after to train in Abu Dubai, this will be the talk of it. Oscar Bobb Bobb Bobb.

2. FA Cup: Tottenham vs Man City Thoughts

We are yet to score a goal at their new stadium but with over nine thousand seats sold out by the away support in twenty four hours. We can only hope the performance will match the dedication of the away supporters.

  • City have lost the last four away fixtures against Tottenham, failing to score a goal since they moved to the new Stadium. Alongside the goal of winning four back-to-back premier league titles, the club will dare to dream of scoring a goal at Spurs.

  • With each premier league team taking a winter break between league fixtures, both will arrive with many returning players from injury along with refreshed ones from breaks. Can expect full strength line ups from both sides.

  • Spurs will ideally look to have Maddison back in the line up along with Kulusevski. City still waiting on updates for Haaland, Stones and Akanji. All three not expected to play yet.

  • The game should see the increase in minutes by KDB, looking at between 45 - 60. A huge opportunity for Oscar Bobb to play another ninety, building on the crucial goal against Newcastle.

Full in depth preview to follow next week.

3. I’m so Happy with my Squad

We are all too familiar with that line from Pep Guardiola in previous January windows and can expect more of the same this month.

  • Kalvin Phillips move away is on the cards for this window and the next with many different clubs being linked to him in different capacities. All of which have yet to become serious options.

  • CFG and MCFC have made moves for young players in this current window with Alex Alcala and Claudio Echeverri respectfully.

  • Links continue to come up for the summer with City from right wingers through to midfielders.

"I’m constantly hearing another winger is on the agenda. With Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku their options on the left and Phil Foden tipped to play a more central role going forward — plus the constant uncertainty about Bernardo Silva — that right side appears to be the area of focus."
