1. Everton Game Preview

Before Arsenal or Liverpool can kick a ball, City have the chance to go top on Saturday. Everton arrive to the Etihad on a tough run of form since they last played City, missing important players and having no manager on the sideline. Huge game for the team, with a fully fit squad, to pick up three points and carry momentum into the Champions League.

Injuries of Note

  • Manchester City have a fully fit squad, all available for selection.

  • Everton are without Arnaut Danjuma, Andre Gomes and Dele Alli. Amadou Onana, Doucoure and Ben Godfrey are all doubts that could be involved.

Interesting Stats

  • Everton haven’t won a Premier League game since their December 16th win against Burnley (2-0).

  • Manchester City haven’t lost any of their last 23 Premier League games against teams in the relegation zone.

  • Phil Foden has scored four times against Everton, only netting more against Brighton (6) and Brentford (5).

  • Everton are winless in their last 12 Premier League visits to the Etihad.

Thoughts on the game

  • This is the perfect game for Haaland and one he should relish. Wouldn’t surprise me if he scores a hatrick. The physicality Everton will bring and the space we have at home is set up well for him.

  • Expect Stones to return, stepping into midfield alongside Rodri and picking up another ninety minutes.

  • I think given his performance against Burnley, Nunes will get another chance to play in this game with Kovacic then playing in the champions league game midweek.

  • Foden, KDB and Rodri all have to play. Cannot see that changing anytime soon.

  • Doku would do well in this type of game against the low block and having to open up space by beating his full back. Grealish better suited to the champions league game midweek.

  • Alvarez to get a rest, playing a lot of minutes this season and would be very useful off the bench in case he is needed.

  • With Everton missing key players, expect City to start well against them and push for an early goal.

  • One to watch would be Jarred Branthwaite who has been very solid at center back for Everton, a talent that could be on the move in the summer. Will be trying to tie Haaland down all game.

Predicted Lineup: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Dias, Gvardiol, Rodri, Nunes, KDB, Doku, Foden, Haaland

Score Prediction: Manchester City 3 - 0 Everton

2. City in Stats

Looking at some charts around Premier League stats this season shows a lot about the way City have played. Explains some questions on the team defensively and it’s strengths.

Thoughts

  • Manchester City have conceded 25 goals in the Premier League this season, only Liverpool (22) and Arsenal (22) have conceded less. Defensively overall we are doing well this season, the stats back that up compared to the rest of the Premier League. The issue is more about comparisons to last season, lack of clean sheets and our defending of duels. Everyone has picked up on something being off this season, our struggles in duels is one to eliminate in the second half of 23/24.

  • Despite the injuries to key players the team still maintains an outstanding output of chances and threat created.

  • Build up being careful and slow is vital to the way we play, no surprise that only Arsenal are even close to City on that metric.

  • City are one of the best sides in Europe at swiftly winning back possession. Certainly no lack of motivation or hunger this season!
